It is highly correlated with a composite score consisting of Body Mass Index, Systolic Blood Pressure, Fasting Glucose, Triglycerides, and HDL, derived by using factor analysis of specific National Institutes of Health (NIH) data.

It is a good predictor of the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome, according to the consensus definition of metabolic syndrome. This predictive model gives the probability of metabolic syndrome, making the healthwiz score easily interpretable.
